Update 30/07/2013

Tomorrow will be the day to the wig manufacturer. I will be bringing a lot of ponytails there for the final selection. Once selected, donors will be informed and their names (unless anonymous) will be mentioned.

Recently I have added some donors' name on the donors' page. Will post more about them on a later date.

What is your view?

Something interesting I saw on my way to work this morning. A rag and bone man 'snatching business’ from some school students, the middle aged man claims that he does better in saving the environment. Though both may seems to be doing the same thing, they are not. So who would you give your old newspaper to? The rag and bone man or those students?

This may seems simple or not?

Next Wednesday

Appointment fixed! Next Wednesday, I will be going down to the wig manufacturer. Hope there will not be any last minute changes. I am excited!!!

Appointment

I have made an appointment with the wig manufacturer to send in the hair for our wigs. It will be on the last week of July, but the exact date has not been confirmed yet. Will keep everyone posted.

Our profit: smiles

Volunteering for a charity organisation may not be as easy as to offer your help, not to mention when you are setting up one yourself. It’s like setting up your own business just that the profit you will be making isn’t money, but smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries.

Ideas may come easy, but once you have decided on what you wanted to do, you would see that there will be many obstacles awaiting for you before your charity could actually start. And it will be tougher when donations are required.

What should you do to make your donor believe in you? Trust; And I am so glad that our first batch of donors trusted me with their hair, hence our first 2 wigs were made.

When you donated your money or even clothing to an organisation, you would always wanted to make sure that the organisation would not be making use of your donation to earn profit. Therefore, transparency is also very important. I have everything you would need to find out about my cause posted on my site. Donors can verified before making any decision to donate their hair. I am glad that some donors did.

Other than donors, one of the obstacles that you may need to overcome are authorities or some bigger bodies or companies. In my case, no big issue at the moment and I hope there would not be in the future. Just hope to be treated fairly. I would, again, stressed that this project is to have another option for our local cancer patients and to help them stay pretty and not to go against anyone or any events.

Funds. One of the most important thing you would need while doing a charity. I am glad that the wig manufacturer gave me a discount for the wigs I made, and am also pleased to have personal friends to sponsor, if not all, part of the wig. That helps to save money for my future wigs.

Time; another thing you need to factor in. Make sure you try to balance your work, personal life and still have time to do your charity. I know it’s kind of hard, especially when work is concern. I have always been able to meet donors, but due to some unexpected workload I am currently having, I am either totally stressed out to think about meeting donors or have no time at all.

All being said, I hope people will have a clearer picture about my cause. Should you be approached by some other organisation to ask for hair donation, verified their cause. Under no circumstances should donated item (in this case, hair) be used for profit making and unless they misused the word ‘donate’.

I would like to thank our first batch of donor in 2011; Joanna, Grace, Ween Sze, Jillia, Sharon and Josephine for trusting their hair with me. Josephine made her decision not to sell her hair but to donate for my cause. Thanks everyone.

Not forgetting my friend, Fiona. She was not only the first donor to cut her hair for my cause but also the first donor to have donated her hair twice. Thanks again Fiona.

Update 13/07/2013

As mentioned, we will be making our wigs pretty soon. I have pre-selected some ponytails, and hair donors have been informed.

Due to my work schedule, I will be postponing my visit to the wig manufacturer till late July or early August. I have also push back all the collections as well. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Update 09/07/2013

NCCS has been informed of our upcoming wigs donation even though the number of wigs and the completion date is still unknown.

Her story...

Sneha donated her hair in April, and now, she would like to share her story on her donation.

"Last year, my grandmother in India got diagnosed with cancer. I really wanted some way to show my support in helping those suffering with cancer from here.

I have heard of Hair for Hope but I realized the hair goes to waste there. That's when I found your blog and decided to contribute to your cause.

Since I have had long hair since primary school, I was looking for a change too. After mustering up the courage to chop off my super thick locks, I am happy to not only support your cause, but sport a new hairstyle after a very long time! I hope others too will be inspired and take this step, at least once in their lives!"
- Sneha

Together with her story, Sneha also attached a few of her photos (below) for us. Thanks again Sneha for you hair donation, story and photos.

Looking forward

In my previous post, I mentioned that the wig manufacturer will be starting his operation in 2 weeks time. I will be heading down not only to view his new premises, but also to make our long waited fourth wig.

Ponytails for our fourth wig had already been pre-selected since February, and we will be doing another round of pre-selection for our future wigs. As for how many wigs are we going to make, I will not say it for now. I will only announce it at a much later date, probably after the factory visit, but donors will be informed once their hair has been pre-selected.

Good News!

Just a minute or two ago, I received a piece of good news and I couldn't wait to share it with you. The wig manufacturer is starting his operation in 2 weeks time!! Yay!

But he wouldn't be able to help me until he finished some other orders, which will be somewhere in August!

Oh, his new place is kind of out of the way.
